About Matthew Willett
Whether you are selling your boat or looking to buy, you need to know that you are in good hands. My love of boats like most goes back to a childhood on the water with my father, in the family runabout catching fish. I started to earn a living out of the industry in 1992 when I joined the Royal Australian Navy as an officer spending the best part of the next 10 years at sea, ultimately qualifying as a Navigator. Using the commercial qualifications and experience gained from my time in the RAN, I started my own business washing boats and ended up working on contract for Riviera delivering new vessels from Queensland to Sydney. I was fascinated by the sales process and although I was never trained in sales I started selling new and used vessels for a prominent Australian Boat Builder in 2002.
My first sale was a 28 Bertram and I earned $150 in commission but working through and getting the sale was a buzz. I knew then I had managed to find something that I loved and enjoyed but was also able to earn a living from. I was privileged to learn from the best in the industry and represent a fantastic product. That experience enabled to me to build a solid foundation of customer relations, sales and administration skills, to match the seagoing and boat handling skills I learnt from the Navy.
That brand and our dealership continually excelled winning many dealership awards throughout the following years. I enjoyed 8 successful years with the brand, twice gaining the Australasian Salesperson of the year award based on sales numbers and customer service feedback. Armed with this experience in new and used boat sales and drawing on the knowledge of those operating in the industry, I felt that the opportunity to open my own office was never better and so in Jan 2010, MWM opened.
Soon after opening I was offered the opportunity to represent the Jeanneau and Prestige range of powerboats as the NSW distributor. Since taking on the brand we have invested heavily in time and resources to walk along the brand in our emerging market and see it become a real choice for the boat buying public. Having delivered on average around 6 new boats a year since we began, this year MWM was awarded as the Prestige dealership of the year for Asia Pacific at the recent regional dealer conference held in Sydney.
What I bring to the table for you is a freshening and invigorated approach to classic brokerage. I have a depth of experience and knowledge across an industry that has boomed and subsequently busted over the past 10 years. Importantly though I offer a genuine and personalised service and pride myself in relationship selling. You are dealing with a small brokerage, you are dealing with the owner and so you can expect a level of service from me that is reflective of my passion and desire to operate a successful business in this industry. Whether you are buying or selling, my aim is to offer you an experience that exceeds your expectations and gives you cause to comment.
